Claude Orin Morin, 97, of Brookings, a former Baker County resident, died Feb. 13, 2008, at a Brookings hospital of age-related causes.

His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, 1995 Fourth St.

He was born on March 30, 1910, at the mouth of Pine Creek in Baker County. He was the sixth of nine children born to Lewis Calvin and Laura Ellen Phillips Morin.

As a young child, he moved to Hereford, where the family homesteaded a cattle ranch. He attended school in Haines. He was a 1933 graduate of Oregon State University at Corvallis where he earned a bachelor's degree in forestry.

On Dec. 31, 1930, he married Olive Josephine Harrison at Weiser, Idaho. The couple made their first home at Sumpter. They had three sons, Claude Jr., Harold and Forest. Mrs. Morin died on June 20, 1964.

Mr. Morin married Elaine Horne Liddell on April 28, 1972. She died on April 19, 2007.

He was employed by the U.S. Forest Service, and the family moved with his employment transfers to Wisconsin and several areas of Oregon and Idaho. He was stationed in New Meadows, Idaho, for 13 years before transferring to the regional office at Ogden, Utah.

His final career move was to the national headquarters in Washington, D.C. Mr. Morin retired from the Forest Service in 1973.

In retirement, Mr. Morin traveled extensively throughout the United States and to many areas of the world including Egypt and the Holy Lands, Spain and other European countries. The Morins were members of the first group to travel to China after the opening of the country to visitors during the Nixon administration.

He was currently a member of the Brookings Presbyterian Church. While living at Ogden, he was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and in Idaho, the Methodist Church. Ecumenical in thought, the family usually attended the church nearest their home while the children were growing up.

Mr. Morin was a talented fix-it guy, and enjoyed making repairs to many things, his family members said. He was a perfectionist and a very hard worker by nature. He had a winning smile, a good sense of humor, was affectionate and non-judgmental, and was everyone's favorite uncle in the family, they said.

In younger years, he loved to dance, and while in New Meadows, Idaho, he started the community's first Boy Scout troop.

He loved to grow flowers, and while living at Ogden, had planted and tended a large rose garden around the church and his home.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Claude Jr. and Bonnie Morin of Brookings; grandchildren, Laurie Larson, and her husband, Don, of Beaverton, Kelvin "Kelly" and his wife, Paula Morin, of Salem, Kolleen Bennett and her husband, Dennis, of Weston, Joe Morin and his wife, Stephanie, and Peggy Crow and her husband, Tom, all of Brookings, and Trudy Kessler and her husband, Ed, of Sandy, Utah; stepchildren, Scott and his wife, Skuntala Liddell, and Gary Liddell, all of Ogden, Utah, Kathy Bolte and Dr. Bob Bolte, both of Salt Lake City; daughters-in-law, Judy Morin of Salt Lake City and LaDonna Osborn of Appleton, Wash.; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wives; two sons, Harold and Forest; four brothers, Vernell, Ted, Pierce and Glen; and two sisters, Gladys and Nellie; and an infant brother and sister , who were born prior to Claude's birth.

‘Bob' Patterson

William Roberts "Bob" Patterson, 67, a former Baker City resident, died Feb. 12, 2008, at the Veterans Medical Center in Walla Walla, Wash., from complications of cancer.

His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Enterprise.

Bob was born on Feb. 16, 1940, at Baker City to Franklin W. "Bill" and Elizabeth Patterson. The Patterson family spent summers at their cabin at Wallowa Lake, which had been purchased in 1918 by grandfather, Dr. Carl G. Patterson of Baker City.

Bob attended Baker public schools and attended Eastern Oregon University at La Grande. He married Ann Jennings of Joseph in 1961. They had two children, Kristan and Steven. He and Ann were divorced in 1978.

He joined the U.S. Air Force and after completing flight school, he flew C-121 radar tracking aircraft over Vietnam. Ultimately, he became proficient in all aircraft (fixed wing and helicopter) during his 14-year Air Force career.

Bob flew for several airlines, finally as captain of both the Boeing 757 and Airbus 320 for America West Airlines. The last seven years he served as an instructor pilot on the Airbus training simulator.

Bob and his wife of 13 years, Marvel, both retired in 2007 to their new home on Wallowa Lake. They became active in the community this past summer volunteering during Chief Joseph Days, caring for flower boxes on Main Street, and as members of the "Westsiders" of Wallowa Lake.

Bob's cancer was diagnosed in late summer.

Survivors include his wife, Marvel, and her children, Chenelle and Connon; his son, Steve, and his wife, Chris, of Oregon City; daughter, Kris Fowler-Patterson; granddaughters, Brittany and Brooke; his brother, John, of Walla Walla; sister, Charlotte "Char" Williams of Joseph; and seven nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Society, the Wallowa County Memorial Hospital, or a charity of one's choice.

Russell Thomas McDonald, age 84, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, uncle, and friend, passed away Dec. 24, 2003, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born Nov. 10, 1919 to Thomas Francis and Ada Pearl Russell McDonald in Murray, Utah. Married Marjor-ie Tate Sept. 17, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple; later divorced.

Survived by brother, Dr. Keith Mc-Donald, sister Donna (Farrell) Lundquist; seven children, Brent (Linda) McDonald, Norman (Sydette) McDonald, Carrie (Tom) Brooks, Stuart Mc-Donald, Arla (Roland) Eysser, Monte (Lisa) McDonald, and Gae Sellers; 21 grandkids; nine great-grandkids; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his grandson.

James "Ralph"Kelson 1924 ~ 2005 ST. GEORGE, UTAH - Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Ralph Kelson, passed away in St. George, Utah, on Mon., Nov. 7, 2005. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on September 20, 1924, to James Conrad and Mary Cleona Thorpe Kelson. He married Elizabeth Beagley July 5, 1946, in the Manti Temple. Elizabeth died April 28, 1985. He then married Marjorie Tate McDonald in the Salt Lake Temple on December 20, 1985. Ralph served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and worked as an Air Traffic Controller for the FAA for 32 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and golf. James was an active member with the Barber Shop Chorus in St. George, and liked working in the Temple. Ralph is survived by his wife, Marjorie T. Kelson; his sister, Louise Luckart; daughters Kathryn (Fred) Katwyk, Karolyn and Connie Kelson; grandchildren, Rodney James Katwyk, and Whitney Elizabeth Kelson. He is also survived by his step-children, Brent (Linda) McDonald, Norman (Sydette) McDonald, Carrie (Tom) Brooks, Stuart McDonald, Arla (Roland) Eysser, Monte (Lisa) McDonald, Gae Sellers; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and close family and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 14, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the Nephi Ward Chapel, 222 S. 1st E., Nephi, UT, with the first visitation Sunday, November 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, and the second visitation Monday from 12 to 1 p.m., prior to services, at the Chapel. THELMA TATE- obituary
Thelma Andrus Tate Loving Wife & Mother Thelma Estelle Andrus Tate, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, September 14, 2010. Thelma was born February 24, 1931; the youngest child of Benjamin F. Andrus and Bertha S. Wright. She grew up in Draper, Utah and graduated from Jordan High School in 1949. She and her eternal companion Boyd R. Tate were sealed September 25, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Thelma lived life to the fullest. She radiated a joy that drew others to her and she loved and cared for them with selfless grace. She was a faithful member of the LDS Church, serving in various callings throughout her life and she had a strong testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Thelma is survived by her husband Boyd and children: Rick (Lanette), Ken, Tana (Niels) Fugal, Brian (Marla), Karon Haraldson, Leah (Carl) Allen, Darrell (Jennifer), Julie Reynolds, Cindy (Brian) Cunningham, 37 grandchildren and 29 great-grand children. She is also survived by her brother DeVon F. Andrus (Joanne). Preceded in death by her parents, 11 siblings and one grandson. A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17 at the Larkin Mortuary 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 18 at the Emerald Ward Chapel, 1325 East Cherry Lane, Layton, Utah. Friends may call upon the family an hour before the service. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah. Helen was born on March 11, 1927, to Edwin Franklin Tate, and Florence Morrison Horne Tate, In Richfield, Utah. She left this mortal life on July 7, 2000. The family moved to Salt Lake City in 1930 where Helen graduated from South High School. She attended the University of Utah where she met and married Fred Harrison "Harry" Luke, on August 29, 1946. They were later divorced. She never remarried, and her siblings and friends became her family.
She is survived by four brothers, Gerald "Gary" Tate, Howard (Carol) Tate, Boyd (Thelma) Tate, and Burton (Jeanne) Tate; a sister, Marjorie (Ralph) Kelson; a sister-in-law, Helen (Roland) Wyatt; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an older sister, Leah Tate (Fred) Wyatt; and brothers, Joseph Stanford Tate, and Roland Wyatt; sisters-in-law, Ruth Beagley (Gary) Tate, and Flora (Joseph) Tate.
We as Helen's family wish to express our thanks to the nurses and staff of the Live Oaks Living Center for the care and comfort they gave Helen while she was there, also Rosalie Rowsey for the gracious service she gave to Helen, and especially to her special friend Betty Francis who remained a true friend through all of Helen's problems. Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 14, 2000 at 1 p.m. at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 4th Ave. and "N" Street, Salt Lake City. Gerald E. (Gary) Tate, 86, passed away July 27, 2000, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born October 17, 1913, in Richfield, Utah, the son of Edwin F. and Florence Morrison Horne Tate. Gary attended schools in Richfield, Bear River (Tremonton), and graduated from South High School. He played football at Bear River High School, South High School and Westminster Jr. College, earning honors. Gary was also a member of the wrestling team earning honors in this sport also. He served a two year mission for the LDS Church in the Central States Mission including eastern Kansas and Missouri. It was here that he met his beloved sweetheart, Ruth. He married Ruth Beagley April 28, 1938. They are parents of five children. He worked in lumber and hardware. His hobbies include reading, hunting, fishing, golf, and crafts. He served in several LDS ward and stake positions. He and his wife Ruth served a mission in eastern Texas 1977 to 1979.
Gary is survived by daughter, Diane Tate Ogden; three sons, Warren G. (Suzanne), Douglas B. (Milissa) and Robert L. (Mary Ann); 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers, Howard C. (Carol), Boyd R. (Thelma), Burton L. (Jeanne); sister: Marjorie (Ralph) Kelson. Preceded in death by wife Ruth; son Richard Gary Tate; brothers Roland Wyatt, Stanford; sisters Helen, Leah; and parents.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2000, 11 a.m. at Mountain View Memorial Estates, 3115 East 7800 South. Friends may call Tuesday evening 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the services.
