Hazel Parks Urie - Obituary

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Hazel Parks Urie, passed away on June 18, 2010 in Cedar City, Utah. She was born on September 7, 1919 in Richfield, Utah to John William & Clara Ella Horne Parks. She married Roy Parry "Pug" Urie of Cedar City, UT. on June 7, 1947. Hazel loved to learn. She was involved in the Drum and Bugle Corps in Richfield High School. She continued her higher education at B.A.C in Cedar City, and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Food Science from Utah State University.

During WWII, she worked at the University of Utah feeding the R.O.T.C. and regular Army. Hazel taught Home Economics, and P.E. in Monroe, Utah. She was later recruited to come and teach at the B.A.C. (SUU) in the Foods and Nutrition department. She was not only a good teacher to her students, but also a great teacher to her 6 children that she raised.

She held numerous positions in the LDS Church. Hazel loved to attend the temple and institute classes. She was an expert seamstress, cook, weaver, and talented floral arranger. Her life was full of service to her family, friends and community.

Pug and Hazel were blessed with 6 children; Douglas & Hollie Urie, of Cedar City, UT., Janis & Charles Frank of Albuquerque, NM., Marie & Alan Adams of Parowan, UT., Adele & Matt Clark of Diamond Valley, UT., Ann & Jim Blackner of Cedar City, UT., Wayne & Tracie Urie of Ferron, UT., 27 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; Fay, Smith, Frank & Francis Parks, and sisters; Editha Shurtz, Mildred Parrish & Berna Deane Anderson, her son-in-law Charles Frank, and granddaughter Erin Adams.

Hazel was a true lady in all she did and said. She leaves a wonderful legacy of love and service.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cedar 2nd and 8th Ward Chapel, 212 West 200 South Cedar City, Utah. Visitations will be held Monday, June 21, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Southern Utah Mortuary, 190 North 300 West, Cedar City, Utah and again prior to services on Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
